The National Contest for Typical Products, organized every two years, aims at:
- Improving product quality to better meet consumer demand.
- Showcasing and familiarizing consumers about typical food products and the production methods.
- Marketing these products and facilitating market access, by identifying the best products.
In the long-term, the above-mentioned goals of the National Contest for Typical Products will:
- Encourage quality improvement and adding value to terroir products, by acknowledging the advantages of a given product as compared to similar ones;
- Develop and/or strengthen ties between producers of local products or a given country, buyers and consumers (national and international);
- Display the country’s finest typical products and to promote a typical brand image with consumers, national and international purchasing organizations and media, so as to boost marketing and exports;
- Help modernize the typical products sector through enhanced organization, by fueling a shift from a traditional sector to a modern one, while preserving typicality of the products.
The National Contest for Typical Products is not meant to be specialized and is open to different types of producers and a wide variety of products, tested in homogenous batches. It is not reserved to any specific branch; it is a contest based on tastings by category and subcategories, on the basis of technical and hedonic aspects (i.e. liking or disliking a product).
